Throughout the Batman series, did the Joker always have the facial scars or was that introduced in Dark Night?

And what is the explanation of his appearance?Throughout the Batman series, did the Joker always have the facial scars or was that introduced in Dark Night?
They're almost unique to the movie, but they were introduced in Batman Confidential. He got them prior to becoming the Joker. Here is a scan:

They've been releasing them novel-style in paperback, near the mangas. Report Abuse

The Joker as played by Jack Nicholson was shot through the face, severing the muscles that fraw the mouth down, so he was constantly 'smiling'.

But in the comics, the Joker never had any scars, per se. What it was, was that his face was bleached paper white, his hair was dyed green and his lips were dyed bright red. Supposedly the chemical accident that made him look that way affected his hair follicles, etc, so he could never recover from that.

(It was never stated or shown, but one imagines that the Joker's body hair is green, too.)

It's implied that the Joker went insane as a result of this permanent change to his face. Batman has similar villains, like Two-Face, whose face was scarred and he went berserk and became a criminal, etc.

The facial scars as shown in Dark Knight were a new interpretation of the character. The Joker appeared in Batman comics for ten years before they gave him an origin, you know! It was never explained how his face got that way, or if he only used makeup.

But he was supposedly originally a criminal called the Red Hood, almost caught by Batman, but he dove into a tank of chemical wastes to escape through the drain to the river (long ago, before environmental laws against it) and in the process his face was altered. Search on Red Hood and you'll find more details.
well the drak knights joker is is quite different then the others. for the tim burton joker played by jack nikolson. He didnt have scars until he fell into the paint but with heath ledger's joker he kept changing his story as how he got his scars so we dont really know how he got them. As for cartoons there were'nt any scar
