Can a tattoo be put over scars?

I am getting a tattoo on my leg and was wondering if it can be put over a really big scar i have from when i had leg surgery? will it mess up coloring or will it be just fine? Thanks.Can a tattoo be put over scars?
what that person said about a good tattooer not tattooing over scars is not true. chris garver did a tattoo on miami ink over a girl's surgery scar and i think that he is one of the best tattooers i have ever seen.


do know that it will probably hurt more on the scar tissue and it might not heal the same. so it may not completely ';hide'; the scar. DO research your tattoo artist and make sure they are experienced. i wouldn't go to anyone who hadn't tattooed over scars already. be sure to look at portfolios to make sure you have a great artist before you get started.Can a tattoo be put over scars?
The best thing would be to find a good, clean, reputable tattoo parlor and ask one of the artists there. It will depend on the scar and on the exact tattoo you want but the tattoo place where I got mine done did a tattoo over my friend's surgery scar.
There is no valid reason why You cannot be tattoo'd over scar tissue. Skin is skin, I was once stabbed in the upper arm resulting in a six inch scar across my arm which cut the tattoo there in half. I had another tattoo done over the original and the scar and now you wouldnt know the scar was there. The main issue as a tattooist is there will be a lack of collagen thus making the skin harder, which could cause the gun/machine to jump, however an experienced tattooist shouldnt find this a problem, particullarly with nice even surgery scars as opposed to really bad burns, which in my humble opinion would be allmost impossible to Tattoo.
no because my dad was going to get a tatoo over a scar but they told they couldnt put it over a scar or vanie. but still try. hope

make sure you get an artist with a lot of experience most people wont do it, if its an old scar and its flat they might but they may have to go over it twice to make sure the ink holds also if it does take it might end up looking differeent from the rest of the tattoo cause well it is scar tissue good luck with it if you do it and lemme kow how it turns out cause well.... its interesting
a good tattooer WILL NOT tattoo over your scars.
It will be just fine. That is one of the best ways to hid a scare
i have been told it is painful but yes it can be done find a good artist and it can look awesome it will just take more work than a typical tattoo to get it right
yes...many ppl get tattoos to cover unsightly scars....there may be some problems such as detail could be less but it is very possible to do.
I have read that tattoos can cover scars and that many people actually tattoo over them so they are not shown but my guess it that depending on the severity of the scar would it change things.
