How do you get rid of scars?

I don't think there is any quick fix for getting rid of scars, but products like Bio-oil are meant to be really good at reducing them. I've had scars that have been really prominent, and then disappeared over the space of a few years and now i can't even see them. How do you get rid of scars?
There are some creams that will help take them away. But either than that, you can get lazier surgery, which I don't think you would want. Also, if you are a kid, when you grow, they will gradually go away.
